Do I need a passport to visit Bermuda?

Yes! All visitors, including those from the U.S. and Canada, need a valid passport to enter Bermuda. Make sure it’s not expired—airlines are strict about this, and you don’t want to be turned away at the airport!

When is the best time to visit?

Bermuda is a year-round destination, but the best time depends on what you’re looking for:

  • April to October: Perfect beach weather, lively island vibes, and warm ocean waters.

  • November to March: Cooler, quieter, and ideal for golf, hiking, and exploring without crowds.

Even in our "winter," temperatures rarely drop below 60°F (16°C), so there’s never a bad time to visit.

What is the weather like?

Bermuda has a mild, subtropical climate, meaning we don’t get extreme heat or cold.

  • Summer (May–October): Warm and sunny, 75-85°F (24-29°C), with refreshing ocean breezes.

  • Winter (November–April): Cooler, 60-70°F (16-21°C), great for exploring but maybe too chilly for swimming.

We do get quick rain showers here and there, but they usually pass fast and leave behind sunshine.

Do I need to rent a car?

Nope, and fun fact—you actually can’t! Bermuda doesn’t allow car rentals for visitors. But don’t worry, getting around is easy:

  • Electric minicars – Compact, fun to drive, and perfect for two people.

  • Scooters & e-bikes – Great if you’re comfortable riding.

  • Taxis & private drivers – Convenient, especially for groups.

  • Buses & ferries – Affordable, reliable, and a great way to sightsee!

What is the currency in Bermuda?

We use the Bermuda Dollar (BMD), which is pegged 1:1 to the U.S. Dollar—so one Bermuda Dollar is always equal to one U.S. Dollar. No need to exchange if you’re bringing U.S. cash, as it’s accepted everywhere. However, change might be given in Bermuda Dollars.

Major credit cards are widely accepted, so you don’t need to carry too much cash.

Is Bermuda expensive?

We won’t sugarcoat it—Bermuda is known for being pricey. That said, there are ways to enjoy the island without emptying your wallet. Some tips:

  • Dine at local spots instead of fancy hotel restaurants.

  • Use public transport instead of taxis.

  • Take advantage of free beaches and nature spots—our best attractions don’t cost a dime!

  • Shop at grocery stores if you’re staying somewhere with a kitchen.

Trust us, Bermuda is worth it—and there’s a way to experience it at every budget.

Is Bermuda safe for travellers?

Absolutely! Bermuda is one of the safest travel destinations in the world. Crime is rare, and locals are friendly and welcoming. Like anywhere, just use common sense—keep valuables secure and be mindful when out late at night.

What is the local culture like?

Bermuda is a unique mix of British, Caribbean, and Portuguese influences. The people are warm, polite, and proud of their island, and you’ll hear plenty of “Good morning” and “Good afternoon” (saying hello is a big thing here!).

Our traditions include:

  • Gombey dancers – Colorful, rhythmic performances rooted in African and Caribbean history.

  • Cup Match – A two-day cricket holiday that stops the entire island—seriously!

  • Sunday codfish breakfast – A must-try local tradition.

Bermudians love their island, and we love sharing it with visitors.

Do I need to tip in Bermuda?

Yes! Tipping is customary and appreciated. Most restaurants automatically add a 15-17% service charge, so check your bill before tipping extra. If there’s no service charge, 15-20% is standard.

Taxis, hotel staff, and tour guides also appreciate tips for great service.

Can I drink the tap water?

Yes! Bermuda’s tap water is safe to drink. It comes from rainwater collected on rooftops, filtered, and stored in underground tanks. If you’re staying in a hotel or guesthouse, ask about their water source, but generally, it’s clean and refreshing.
